GNR article from the Rock in Rio 2006 website

Guns N’ Roses return with a bang!

It’s all done. Axl Rose has returned, greater than ever and he promises a successful European Tour. His presence at Rock in Rio-Lisboa, on May 27th, is fully confirmed.

As Guns N’ Roses returned to the scene, Axl Rose showed up greater than ever, giving a memorable performance which included not only his oldest songs, but also some of the songs featured on Chinese Democracy – the new album, set to be released in the Autumn.

Following the expectations swirling around Guns N’ Roses’ return to the music scene, Axl Rose displayed a band made up by Dizzi Reed (keyboards), Tommy Stinson (bass), Brain (drums), Robin Finck (guitar), Richard Fortus (guitar) and Bumblefoot, as Buckethead’s replacement at the Hammerstein Ballroom, New York.

The show was as good as it gets. Axl hit the stage enthusiastically and his energy throughout the two hours plus of performance was truly catching.

It is now a given that their presence at Rock in Rio-Lisboa will score among the many fans who are eager to host in Portugal one of the biggest bands of all time.

The public’s enthusiasm was visible. Euphoric fans were heard singing praises along the lines of ‘Guns are back’, ‘What a concert’ or ‘this was a show to match Guns N’ F’ Roses’ style!’

Much to the fans’ delight, the opening notes were given to ‘Welcome to the Jungle’. ‘It’s so Easy’ and ‘Mr. Brownstone’ followed suit but the true highlight was reached with ‘Live and Let Die’.

Songs from the new album included ‘Chinese Democracy’, ‘Better’ and ‘The Blues’, among others.

Halfway through the show, another surprise awaited the audience. Axl invited Sebastian Bach up on stage and together they sang ‘My Michelle’. This was, of course, highly appreciated!

The concert in New York (which is followed by three more sessions on May 14th, 15th and 17th) was not only a great performance but also a true pyrotechnic show.

Axl had the audience on ‘go’ from the start and he kept them delirious until the last note was heard.

At the end of the show guitarist Robin Finck dived into the audience twice in order to show his joy and Axl Rose threw his microphone as a token of appreciation to the thousands of fans who witnessed the return of Guns N Roses.

Axl Rose also recorded a message for all of his Portuguese fans, confirming his presence at the World’s greatest music festival. These four shows are a training ‘round’ for their upcoming European Tour, which kicks off in Madrid on May 25th. Their performance in Portugal is set for May 27th at Rock in Rio-Lisboa.
